Alongside the Godless Barbarian
by Rev. Becky Fargo-Del Rey, RCMP

Waiting alone in the midst of her uncle’s grotesque curios, with the antediluvian, instinctive rhythmic strumming of Tom’s guitar wafting in from outside, Kelly Hershey, Student Nurse, thought once more of dashing Chrysalis Trudeau, the man who had taught her how to feel. He was now, according to Brother Edwin, a prisoner in the very castle he had once owned.
Just then, came a sudden clatter of hooves, and she somehow knew that her heart had been right all along. He was here! “Our love will outlast eternity, my giddy little goose!” he laughed simply.
At that moment he once again began to woo her with the sensual voice of his Stradivarius, and as the horror of these last months vanished in a blaze of joy, she knew that at last he was hers — and that only death could part them.
