The Looming Barbarians

   Waiting alone in the great, oak-panelled library, with the aristocratic fragrance of a new spring wafting in from outside, Marcus thought once more of the fearless Sydney, the sensitive genius who had known her in ways even she did not suspect. He was now, according to The Times, the hapless captive of mind-devouring space aliens.
   Suddenly, came a knock at the door, and she realized, in a single instant, what was now to happen. He was here! “I love you with a fiery passion which cannot be denied, my Oriental pearl!” he rumbled.
   At that moment he once again began to woo her with the sensual voice of his Stradivarius, and as the band began to play, she allowed her willing mind to sink into a rose-colored maelstrom of bliss.
